  • Additional Information
  • What Educators Are Saying

This unit contains the following topics:

• Translations (using coordinate and vector notation)
• Reflections (in the x-axis, y-axis, y = x, y = -x, and vertical and horizontal lines)
• Rotations (90°, 180°, and 270° rotations about the origin)
• Rotations (90°, 180°, and 270° rotations about any fixed point)
• Dilations (using the origin as the center of dilation)
• Dilations (using any fixed point as the center of dilation)
• Sequences of Transformations
• Symmetry (Line, Point, and Rotational)

*Both counterclockwise and clockwise rotations are included.

Note:This unit was updated in 2018 to include vector notation, rotations using any fixed point as the center, dilations using any fixed point as the center, more sequences of transformations, and two quizzes. The older unit, written in 2015, did not include these items but has received a lot of positive feedback in the past few years. Because some people may prefer the old unit without the additional content, the old unit is included in the download as well. It is the file titled “Unit 9 – Transformations (2015 version)”.

This unit does not contain activities.

This is the guided notes, homework assignments, quizzes, study guide, and unit test only. For suggested activities to go with this unit, check out the ATA Activity Alignment Guides.

License Terms:

This purchase includes a single non-transferable license, meaning it is for one teacher only for personal use in their classroom and can not be passed from one teacher to another. No part of this resource is to be shared with colleagues or used by an entire grade level, school, or district without purchasing the proper number of licenses. A transferable license is not available for this resource.

Copyright Terms:

What standards is this curriculum aligned to?

Because the standards in each state can differ, it is impossible to create a one-size fits all curriculum.Download a complete list of topics included in this curriculum to compare to your own curriculum and standards.

What format are the files in?

All files are in a PDF format; however, the PowerPoint versions of the assessments are included so you can easily make multiple versions or customize to fit your needs. Equation Editor (usually built in to PowerPoint) is required to edit these files. If your Equation Editor is incompatible with mine, simply delete my equation and insert your own. Only assessments are editable.

Will I have access to materials if they are updated?

Yes! If any changes are made to the materials, simply login and redownload from your purchases.

Are answer keys included?

Yes!

Are videos included?

Yes, links to videos (on YouTube) of each lesson in the unit are included. Videos were created by fellow teachers for their students using the guided notes and shared in March 2020 when schools closed with no notice. Please watch through first before sharing with your students. Many teachers still use these in emergency substitute situations.

This has been a Godsend for me! I'm teaching outside of my content area and we don't still have the old textbooks that go with the TE I found. Although I found .pdfs of the student textbook, it's visually SO busy and confusing both my students and I found it hard to navigate. This resource is exactly what I needed - visually clean and easy to navigate, clear, and easy to use!

All Things Algebra always creates fantastic resources. I use these worksheets for extra practice for my students. I also use the note sheets for students who were absent to watch the video and complete the notes. These resources are also helpful for students who need additional direct instruction. Thank you!

I have never bought anything bad from All Things Algebra. I really think you should write your own textbook. Thank you for all your hard work. If you are questioning about buying this, just do it.

FAQs

What are the transformations in 9th grade geometry? ›

There are four common types of transformations - translation, rotation, reflection, and dilation. From the definition of the transformation, we have a rotation about any point, reflection over any line, and translation along any vector. These are rigid transformations wherein the image is congruent to its pre-image.

What are the 4 transformations in algebra? ›

Mathematical transformations involve changing an image in some prescribed manner. There are four main types of transformations: translation, rotation, reflection and dilation.

What are the essential questions for transformations in geometry? ›

Essential Questions:

-Why are only four types of transformations needed to describe the motion of a figure? - How do you identify transformations that are rigid motions? - How do you draw the image of a figure under a reflection? - How do you draw the image of a figure under a translation?

Is geometry in 9th grade? ›

9th grade math usually focuses on Algebra I, but can include other advanced mathematics such as Geometry, Algebra II, Pre-Calculus or Trigonometry. This is the year when they formalize and extend their understanding and application of quadratic and exponential functions as well as other advanced mathematical concepts.

What is the order of transformations in geometry? ›

Find the transformation sequence by first describing the first transformation. If the first transformation is a turn then the sequence starts with a rotation. Then the transformation is a dilation of the figure enlarging. The sequence of transformations would be a rotation then a dilation.

What are the 3 main types of transformations? ›

Translation is when we slide a figure in any direction. Reflection is when we flip a figure over a line. Rotation is when we rotate a figure a certain degree around a point.

How do you identify all transformations? ›

Let's look at four types of transformations: rotations (spinning a shape around a point), translations (shifting a shape), reflections (flipping a shape over a line), and dilations (shrinking or expanding a shape). We practice identifying these transformations in different pairs of figures.

What are the basics of transformations? ›

Transformations in math involve changing a shape's position or which way the shape points. There are three main types: translations (moving the shape), rotations (turning the shape), and reflections (flipping the shape like a mirror image).

What is the rule of transformation in geometry? ›

There are different formulas for different rules of transformation. For vertically transformation the function f(x) is transformed to f(x) + a or f(x) - a. For horizontal transformation the function f(x) is transformed to f(x + a) or f(x - a). Further for stretched or compressed transformation is it f(cx) or cf(x).

What is a turn also called in geometry? ›

A turn is a motion in geometry in which an object is moved about a fixed point called the turn centre. A turn is also called a rotation.

What are the transformations in math year 9? ›

The four transformations we use are rotation, reflection, translation and enlargement. Object The starting shape. Image The transformed shape. Enlargement: e.g. Enlarge the shaded shape by scale factor of 2, centre C.

What is a translation in math grade 9? ›

A translation in math moves a shape left or right and/or up or down. The translated shapes look exactly the same size as the original shape, and hence the shapes are congruent to each other. They just have been shifted in one or more directions.

What are all the types of transformations in math? ›

Transformations - Rotation, Translation, Reflection, Dilation.

What grade is geometric transformations? ›

Geometric transformations | 8th grade | Math | Khan Academy.
