What is the meaning of 2 Peter 2 8? ›

Now in this verse, Peter writes that Lot was "tormented" or "tortured" in his soul by all the sinful deeds he witnessed and heard about. This Greek term is ebasanizen, which means to torture, test, or bring pain. The word is sometimes used to describe a ship trying to sail into a headwind.

There is power in the blood of Jesus. I believe it's time for the Church to begin talking about the blood of Jesus once more and for the world to know what it is to be washed in the blood of Jesus. The blood of Jesus is eternal. Within it is the very life of God.

Peter writes this letter to encourage Christians to live out the purpose of their lives in Christ. He warns readers to beware of teachers who claim to be believers, but present a false version of Christianity. And, Peter calls on all Christians to eagerly watch and wait for the return of the Lord.

2 Peter 3:9 Tells Us God Desires Our Repentance

He wants all to reach repentance. And so you just think about that with the people around you that you will interact with today, God doesn't want any of them to perish. He wants all of them to reach repentance.

Our consciences are easily seared by our sins and the rationalization of our sins, but the answer is simple: you have to pray. To repair your conscience, you have to pray and continue praying, fervently asking God to make you sensitive to your sin and to convict you of your sin.

In answer to our prayers, God's Spirit can restore our seared, defiled, weak and evil consciences, and give us the gift of being able to recognise and avoid sin when we're tempted.

The conscience is fallible, and its standard moldable. The Holy Spirit, in contrast, is always in perfect harmony with God. Given the close connection between these two in the believer's life, it is important to understand how the conscience and the Holy Spirit relate to each other.

Sober-mindedness, according to Peter, means living with a single-minded focus. What is that focus? “Being sober-minded, set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.” It means this; sober-mindedness is living with eternity in view.

This would mean that the Son agrees in the sending of the Spirit, that the Spirit is His ambassador. In turn, theologians see in this text an allusion to eternal realities. The Father and the Son send the Spirit because from all eternity, the Spirit has proceeded from the Father and the Son.

Peter adds that those who stumble because they disobey the word were destined to do so. He doesn't suggest they are not responsible for their disobedience. Simply put, the destiny of all who reject Christ is to "stumble" over Him.

To know Christ is to interact with him personally. But the power of his resurrection is the very life energy that took his dead body and raised it up to life again. So for me to know the power of his resurrection is to have the same power that came into Jesus and raised him up to come into my dead soul and raise me up.
